Watercolor as a hobby

Many people start painting with watercolor when you have a period in your life when you have a break from work.

Watercolor is a creative way to express yourself both as a hobby and for professionals. With Mette's watercolor courses, you can get started right away. The watercolor lessons are step-by-step and you will be guided in a sequence that will help you progress in a safe way.

What materials should I choose for watercolor painting

The first thing you need is suitable materials. So why are the right materials for learning how to paint watercolor important?

Well, if you start with the wrong paper, you will not succeed in learning techniques. You will find that the paper will not be able to carry the water and colors. It will make you feel like you can't figure it out.

That's why I start by giving you an introduction to material selection.

I've been painting watercolors for over 30 years, so I've tried many materials.

Materials for watercolor as a hobby

If you're painting watercolors as a professional, the minimum requirement is that your colors are lightfast. If you want to paint to get started for fun and hobby needs - you can use pretty much any watercolor paint.

However, don't confuse acrylic paints with watercolors. Acrylic paints are for paintings. Therefore, you should not use acrylic paints.

For brands, I recommend Daler Rowney colors. They are lightfast and last virtually forever. You can buy pieces in additional shades to add to your collection.

Often it's a good idea to buy a large box with many shades to start with.

You can always learn more advanced color mixing later.

Why your paper matters a lot in watercolor

In watercolor, paper is your foundation. It's like the foundation of your house. If it's not right, the house will collapse. It's the same with watercolor. The paper is what you have to build your image on. The watercolor paper must therefore be a 300 gram watercolor paper with RU surface for Mette's courses.

Brushes for watercolor are very different

I recommend using artificial sable brushes to paint your watercolors. The brushes are almost as good - as the expensive brushes. See if you can find the model AB GULDMÅR. I've used it all these years and it can be used for all other artistic purposes. Fantastic brush.

Buy a few good brushes in size 6 - 10 - marten brushes.
